The memory of an elephant is popular: Even after many many years, it could still remember finding waterholes, or recognise those elephants from where it was separated. Elephant bulls are considerably bigger than elephant cows. Reaching levels of very nearly four metres, they are the second largest land pets after giraffes. They furthermore weigh five to six tonnes, which means they are the heaviest of all land animals. African elephant bulls usually leave their herd if they are about twelve years old. By then they are grown-up enough to get their own food and protect themselves, so they move through the country with other bulls or as a loner – in search of some other herd.Elephants acknowledge their reflection. They are on the list of very few animals able to perform this.
