Brisbane’s Must Sees August 15th – 21st

The Foundry’s 1st Birthday Party @ The Foundry, 18th August

Can you believe it’s been 365 and ¼ days already? It seems like just yesterday the Foundry opened its doors and extended its loving arms to the cold and weary partyseekers of Brisbane City, but believe it or not, we’re coming up to the one year anniversary of that fateful day, and they’re putting on a show to celebrate! The bill is topped by Brisbane who-knows-how-many-piece powerhouse Velociraptor, who will have the crowd partying like it’s 2015 again. They will be joined by chilled out beat impresario Golden Vessel, futuristic jazz-merchants Astro Travellers, unruly punx Straight Arrows and THE best band in Brisbane, WHALEHOUSE. For more, check out the event page here.  Price: $29.10

Salad Days: Mac DeMarco Appreciation Night @ The Empire Hotel, 19th August

Fresh off a location-change and general re-jig, Bistrotheque is back with a vengeance. Known for cheap drinx, delicious food, A+ music and stellar times had with fantastic mates, the free weekly club night has got its grubby mitts on yet another genius theme. Get ready to shimmy into your overalls, slap on that floppy brim cap, spark those ciggies and hammer a gap in between your two front teeth because this week is Mac Demarco night at the Empire Hotel. Expect to see local legends the Winnie Blue Boys and Squid Party bashing out slacker-jam after slacker-jam, as well as Bistrotheque’s usual suspect DJ’s spinning everything from Freakin’ Out the Neighbourhood to My Kind of Woman. Invite all your dole-bludging mates here. Price: Free, baby!

Confidence Man (final residency show) @ The Foundry, 20th August

I can’t tell you much about this one because secrecy and not knowing what to expect is part of it, but I’ll try my best to let you in. Confidence Man are a new Brisbane two-piece supergroup comprising of the frontmen of two of your favourite Triple J-endorsed bands. Decked out in black and hidden behind masks, the pair will take you for one hell of a ride, with a sound reminiscent of Justice, Cut Copy or Art vs Science. It’s truly something to behold. Support on the night will be provided by lovable larrikins, Ivey and LEO, with neo-psych Tree-of-Life frequenters Nice Biscuit and a DJ set from members of Morning Harvey. Go see this. Trust me. Price: Free

Against the Grain Festival @ Bakery Lane, 19th – 21st August
