It may be cooling down as we head into the winter months, but things are heating up in our vibrant music scene, there’s a huge lineup of live gigs coming our way this month! It may sound like a lot to keep track of, so we’ve done some research and put together a list of June’s absolute Must Sees!

Party For Charlie @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 5th June

Party For Charlie is a Sunday afternoon session at the Lass featuring some of Newcastle’s most exciting talent and a sausage sizzle, all for a great cause. Featuring an absolutely rad all local lineup including Raave Tapes, Arcades and Lions, Auxfire, The Treehouse Children, Dave Wells, M Ø Ø N, Voodoo Youth, and PALS, it’s going to be a fantastic time. Here’s the event page for more info. No-Fi Records Presents: Brucey’s Farewell @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 10th June

It’s going to be an emotional one filled with tears and beers. Matt Bruce is moving on from his spot in Newcastle’s beloved group of post-punk sweethearts, PALS, and No-Fi Records is throwing a party at the Lass to farewell the guitarist. Joining them on stage are Vacations, e4444e, and a ‘dazzling’ special guest. Don’t miss the chance to see PALS perform one last show with their original crew. Check out the link for more details. Price: FREE

Fuck Cancer — Lets Dance @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 11th June

This is more of an event than a gig, but I felt like it was important to add to this list anyway.  It’s set to be a big one, and it’s for a really good cause. The event is being held to raise some money for the Cancer Council with an evening filled with Mario Kart and FIFA tournaments, a life sized Jenga game, a sausage sizzle, some live music from Bofolk Ballico, The Main Guy & the Other Guys, LewieBuddons, and much more. On top of all that, there’s prizes to be won throughout the evening. All proceedings from the event go to the Cancer Council, so come and have some fun! Here’s some more information. KLP ‘Nothing But Air’ Tour @ King Street Hotel, 12th June

Get ready to dance your arses off Newcastle, because Sydney based artist KLP is hitting Newcastle with her signature style electronic tunes and stunning vocals. It’s going to be an absolute banger of a time! Click here for more information. Price: King Street Hotel entry fee.

George Booth EP Launch @ the Hamilton Station Hotel, 16th June

Newcastle’s emo dudes George Booth are finally releasing their debut EP. Joining them on this special occasion are local hardcore legends, Pasha Bulka, Shysters, and ‘Australia’s best surfviolence band since the genre began in late 2015’, Kookpunchr. For more details, check out this link. Jones the Cat ‘Paste On Smile’ Tour @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 18th June

Newcastle’s indie punk outfit Jones the Cat are taking their new tunes all around Australia, stopping at the Lass twice on their journey! Their first hometown show takes place in June,  Ben Bradley, Introvert, and dave supporting them on stage. It’s going to be a blast. Price: FREE

Sad-O-Meter @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 17th June

Brace yourself, these songs are gonna’ make you sad. But it’s okay,  there’s gonna’ be beer. Bofolk Ballico, Rachel Maria Cox, Spencer Scott, and Aitäh are going to pluck at your heartstrings with acoustic guitars and striking vocals. Click here for more info. Price: FREE

Thelma Plum ‘The Unromantic Breakups’ Tour@ the Small Ballroom, June 18th

Thelma Plum has announced her first headline Aussie tour in over a year, and she’s bringing her show to the Small Ballroom this month. Support acts are yet to be announced, but it’s set to be a fantastic night. Keep an eye out on the event page for more info! Price: $24

Urthboy ‘Second Heartbeat’ Tour @ the Cambridge Hotel, June 18th

Since the popular Aussie hip hop artist Urthboy dropped his much hyped fifth album, it’s been met with widespread acclaim, scoring a spot at #7 on the ARIA Chart. Urthboy is taking his show to the Cambo, and sharing the stage with rising stars L-FRESH The LION and Okenyo. This is set out to be an unmissable event full of energy and groovy beats. Auxfire @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, June 23rd

Off the back of their newly released single, Katie, Auxfire are playing the Lass with fellow musicians All In A Year, Caveman, and PALS. If you missed their single launch last month, this is your chance to catch them again! Click here for more information. Price: FREE

Grouse House and No-Fi Records Presents: Raave Tapes EP Launch @ King Street Hotel, June 25th

Alright, so this is kind of a big deal. At the end of the month, the dazzling Raave Tapes are launching their long anticipated debut EP and celebrating their adoption into the No-Fi Records family. Joining Raave Tapes on stage are the No-Fi crew: Vacations, PALS, Wavevom, and Voodoo Youth, as well as Newcastle’s lo-fi rap darling Kale. It’s going to be an absolutely wild night full of booze, glitter, and unapologetic dancing. Make sure you get in early, you don’t want to miss out. Here are the details! Price: $10

Kaleidoscope ‘the Weekender’ Tour @ the Hamilton Station Hotel, June 30th

If Luke Henry from Violent Soho has cited them as one of his favourite bands, it’s got to be good. Kaleidoscope are surf punk rockers from NSW’s South Coast, and they’re bringing their sound to us. Supporting the boys are our local alt band Introvert, and Sydney based Daggerz. This is set to be a killer night.  Click here for more info. Price: FREE
