Superficial Light by Nocturnal Tapes

NSW duo Nocturnal Tapes are doing some interesting shit; the pair hail from the coastal town of Yamba, and are well on the way to forging a path in the Australian electro-psych scene. They’ve shared stages with Boo Seeka and Belligerents in the past year and have just hit home again after a six-date East Coast tour.

Superficial Light is a refreshing break from the well-worn psychedelic pop-rock we’re so very used to in this post-Tame-Impala world. The track is breathy and light, pairing recognisable psych-style vocals with an interesting blend of live instrumentation and slow-building electronic surges. It builds to a climax towards the end, providing a tuneful and cinematic journey from start to finish.

Sounds like:

If Hot Chip and The John Steel Singers had a baby.

Watch out for:

Guess what? Nocturnal Tapes are touring this coming month! Launching a new single, the pair will be hitting up and down the coast to share their good vibes. Check out their Facebook page to stay updated.
