Newcastle’s Must Sees: May

There’s no shortage of live music events in Newcastle this May as we see some rad new releases and some big names popping up throughout the city.  To make it easier to keep track of your local Must Sees, we’ve compiled this sweet little list just for you.

Split Feed and MVRKS ‘Meat Raffle at the Bowlo Tour’ @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 12th May

Newcastle’s very own Split Feed are stopping by the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel as a part of their Meat Raffle at the Bowlo tour around NSW. Coming along for the ride are Sydney psych-rockers, MVRKS. Though they aren’t actually playing at any bowlos, and the meat raffle is yet to be confirmed, it’s sure to be an absolute cracker of a night with Newcastle boys dave and PALS joining them on stage. The Drones ‘Feelin’ Kind of Free’ Album Tour @ the Cambridge Hotel, 13th May

Aussie rockers, the Drones, are performing a number of national shows to celebrate the release of their new album, Feelin’ Kind of Free. Revered for their electric live performances, this is going to be an experience to say the very least. More details about the event can be found here. Price: $34.90

Auxfire ‘Katie’ Single Launch @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 13th May

Still broke? Well, luckily next Friday Auxfire will be celebrating their newly released single, ‘Katie’ at the Lass with a free gig. Supporting Auxfire are Sydney electronic outfit, Pluural, who released their debut EP not too long ago. Here’s the event page for more info. Price: FREE

‘Equinox of Sound’ @ the Croatian Club, 14th May

With a mostly local lineup of ten fantastic bands including dave, Arcades and Lions, Good Council, and more, it’d be crazy to miss out. As an added incentive to attend this awesome event – as if there wasn’t enough already, a portion of the proceeds are being donated to Lifeline Hunter and Central Coast, and ANTaR. The Cat Empire ‘Rising With the Sun’ Album Tour @ Bar on the Hill, 14th May

Australia’s very own music legends, the Cat Empire, have recently announced their ‘Rising With the Sun’ album tour, and the University of Newcastle’s Bar on the Hill is set to host their Newcastle show. What better way to party on a Saturday night than grooving to some vibrant tunes by some of Australia’s best? For more details, check out this link. Nocturnal Tapes ‘Patterns’ Single Launch @ the Lass O’Gowrie Hotel, 18th May

North Coast NSW based indie-electronic duo, Nocturnal Tapes, are returning to Newcastle this May to launch their bangin’ new single ‘Patterns’. If you love to groove and let loose, then this is for you. Head on over to their event page for more details. Price: FREE

Melody Pool @ 5 Sawyers, 19th May

Our very own Hunter Valley gal Melody Pool has just dropped her second album ‘Deep Dark Savage Heart’, something you should be very excited about. She’s an artist met with widespread critical acclaim, and she’s playing an intimate show at Darby Street’s 5 Sawyers. This is undoubtedly a must see event. VHS Presents: ’Rock n Roll Death Party’ @ the Croatian Club, 20th May

Local cult surf crew VHS are pulling together four rad bands to bring you a hell of a good time. Taking the stage are LOS SCALLYWAGGS, Pawn Magz, LewieBuddons, and Space Carbonara. Keep an eye out on the event page for more details. Price: FREE

21 MAY @ the Cambridge Hotel, 21st May

Get on down to the Cambo later this month to check out a variety of genres taking the stage, including an all local lineup: Raave Tapes, Fox Control, Vacations, Yours Alone, and PALS.
