You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me by Alex Lahey

Having gained a steady following over the last five years as part of Melbourne septuplet Animaux, singer-songwriter Alex Lahey has decided to go it alone. Her solo career has already seen her support the likes of fellow breakout stars Gordi and The Pierce Brothers, while her debut single Air Mail received solid reviews last year on Triple J Unearthed along with heavy rotation on independent radio.

While a bit of a mouthful, You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me is certainly a lot easier on the ears than you’d think. Lahey packs plenty of passion into her vocals, which effortlessly jump around a simple, yet incredibly catchy chord progression, before the infectious chorus sews up the song perfectly. With a bit of low-fi fuzz and some really smart song-writing thrown in, it’s a track that definitely deserves all the kudos it has generated since its release.

Sounds like:

The lyrical charm of Courtney Barnett meets the breezy, indie rock sound of Circa Waves.

Watch out for:

YDTYLPLM is the first taste of Lahey’s debut EP, which was produced by Oscar Dawson of Holy Holy and is set to drop in May this year. She’s also on the road in Sydney and Melbourne in March and April to promote the single.
