Colours by Anatole
Sydney’s Anatole is an electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist, but to his mum he is Jonathan Baker. Although solo, Jonathan is definitely not afraid of collaboration with other talented musicians alike. His single Colours is a testament to that, filled to the brim with arrangements of orchestral instruments from fellow musicians that he met whilst studying trumpet at the Sydney Conservatorium. Anatole is currently signed to TEEF Recordings and his music can be found on Triple J Unearthed and Soundcloud.
The connection Jono has to classical music and composition is obvious and resonates throughout Anatole’s work. My heart warms to the sound of beautifully arranged instrumentation. Colours is a calming blend of violins, violas, cellos, double bass, clarinet and flute amidst the background of his electronic production. It’s hard not to be impressed when an instrumental track is ever so busy, yet remains effortless to its listener. Instrumental tracks encourage your mind to wander, Colours conjures plenty of bright and mystical thoughts; a tapestry of sounds. Later in the piece the subtle incorporation of extremely high pitched strings make me feel a little bit on edge, but in a good way.
There’s a hint of Tycho, mixed with the sweet influence of Bonobo. And blimey do I love Bonobo.
Watch out for:
