Brisbane’s Must Sees – OCTOBER

With Halloween and the holidays fast approaching, Brisbane’s live music scene is becoming increasingly busy. There is no shortage of live music in October and we thought we would collate some of the best to help you decide what to check out this month.

EAST @ Black Bear Lodge, October 1st

Following the premiere of her new video for The Alley, this 17-year-old from the NSW Central Coast is starting to make her name for herself and will be launching her new EP at the Black Bear lodge on the first of this month. Price: $15.30

Twin Haus (Single Launch) @ The Foundry, October 3rd

Twin Haus are the experimental rock/ambient psych group launching their new single, I Used to Think, early this month. Supported by The Furrs and Vulture St Tape Gang, this gig will be an interesting one. Price: $11

Roving Conspiracy @ West End, October 6th

Now here is something different. Roving Conspiracy is an event held on the first Monday of every month that has live music, galleries and home-made chai. The aim of these events is to unearth new local talent and bring the community together. Price: FREE

Brisbabes #1 @ The Foundry, October 9th

With such a large amount of new music emerging in Brisbane, it can be hard sort through what is worth your time. Have no fear – some of the best female artists have been selected for you. MKO Sun, Gabriella Cohen and OK Badlands are the beautiful ladies you’ll have the pleasure of listening to if you attend.  Price: $12

Weightless In Orbit @ The Zoo, October 9th

This Sunshine Coast metal band pack a punch and this gig is not for the light-hearted. With supporting artists Therein, Kodiak Empire and Indika this gig will be an experience as much as it is a show.  Price: $12

Jazel (EP Launch) @ The Studio in Metro Arts, October 10th

To those of you who are under 18, this event is ALL AGES! Jazel are a female four piece with incredible voices you don’t want to miss. They are putting on a theatre-like performance to launch their debut EP. There are only 115 tickets available for this event so get in quick! Price: $10

Aquila Young (EP Launch) @ Black Bear Lodge, October 16th

The mysterious and powerful Aquila Young will be playing alongside a host of local talent as she launches her new debut EP. You can check out our glowing review of this ethereal beauty here. Price: $13.30

Valley Fiesta @ Fortitude Valley, October 23rd – 25th

This year there is an incredible line-up, with acts like Last Dinosaurs, Alpine, Art vs. Science and Gypsy and the Cat being just the tip of the iceberg. If you want more than just good music, Valley Fiesta is for you. The festival offers food, photography, fashion, art and markets. Price: FREE (For most events)

I AM D (HTTS EP Launch) @ Milk Factory, October 30th

Calling all hip-hop and rap fans! I AM D are the winners of the 2014 Hilltop Hoods initiative grant and are finally launching their new EP, Tied to the Sky. Tickets for this event are limited with ALL proceeds going to Headspace, in support of those with mental health issues. Price: $15

C.W Stoneking @ The Triffid, October 31st

C.W Stoneking is again climbing his way up to fame and, after a successful tour of Europe and the UK, is returning to Australia with his groovy jazz sound. You can expect tracks from his recent album, Gon Boogaloo (which we reviewed here), as well as some other surprises in this gig. Price: $40.20

The Paper Kites @ Woolly Mammoth, October 31st

The Paper Kites are well loved by us here and need no introduction. The band is touring in celebration of launching their new album twelvefour (you can check out our review here). Seeing The Paper Kites live in action will be the perfect way to finish off a great month full of incredible live music. Be quick though tickets are selling fast! Price: $25
